About the Author
Kumares C. Sinha, PhD, PE, Hon. M.ASCE, is Edgar B. and Hedwig M. Olson Distinguished Professor in the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University. Dr. Sinha is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Transportation Engineering and a former president of the Transportation and Development Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Samuel Labi, PhD, is an assistant professor in the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University. He is currently a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

very thorough and very comprehensive

this book is very detailed and very thorough about all the issues that need to be dealt with in a transportation project. It contains all the necessary tables and graphs for you to look up and explanations for them are very well written. Even if the information may not be up to date, the references are a very good source to use to find more current data. But you won't find anything else that contains all the relevant information you need for planning a transportation project in a more comprehensive format than this book.

This a great book!

I used this book for one of my graduate classes. The book is great. It covers many topics in transportation area and provided lots of references for my research. After I graduated and started work in a consulting company, it served as a "Guide Book". In many cases, when i did not know how to solve a problem, I always could find a solution or a reference in this book. Also, I found one of the authors, Sinha, is a member of National Academy of Engineering (NAE). You know, there only a very few NAE members in transportation area.

Well thought out and concise but...

This book is very practical, simple, and useful.
That being said, the production quality of the book seems almost...cheap. I expected the book to at least be in color, but this book is black and white from cover to cover, there are no illustrative or real world examples, no glossary, and the index is only 3 pages.
Also the writing is very dry (boring), and there's just something about the layout that makes it hard to read. I'm working on my second Masters degree so text books are not new to me, but the layout and type-font of this particular text book makes the words just seem to run together on the page.
I really appreciate that this book is online on Google books, the four stars I gave it are a direct result of being able to search through the book online.
I'm a Logistics Major and we're all about making everything as efficient and accessible as possible.
